This book marks 150 years since Greece issued it's first stamps. These, the Large Hermes Heads, are considered by many to be amaong the most attractive early issues of any country. They are complex, with subtle colour and paper variations during their 25 years of production, and have a number of unique features, such as the control numbers printed on the reverse of the higher values.

This book provides a valuable addition to the literature of Greek philately by giving a summary of the postal history of the subject;details of the making of the dies and plates;and, most usefully, a guide to the characteristics by which the various issues may be identified.
