RUSSIA - Stanley Gibbons Russia 2008 Published by Stanley Gibbons. 764pp. Colour. English Inc Russian Empire, RSFSR, USSR, Russian Federation, Russian Civil War, occupation issues, Russian post offices abroad, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Karelia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, North Ingermanland, Tajikistan, Transcaucasian Federation, Turkmenistan, Tuva, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, West Ukraine, Mongolia, miniature sheets, booklets ; Philatelic Exporter review, courtesy of David Rennie (August 2008): This is the first edition to be published since I started writing the book reviews for the Exporter, eight years ago this month. It is now in full colour and has been completely reset, with many illustrations re-screened. New in this edition are the stamps issued for the Russian Occupation of North Korea in 1946 to 1948, and the Lithuanian Occupation of Memel in 1923. New issues have been included for most countries up to December 2007, and a few into 2008, however, the 2007 issues are included in a 24pp Addenda at the end on the book, which, although mentioned in "About This Edition", DOES NOT feature in the Contents page, and might easily be overlooked. New this time is a Design Index for Mongolia, however with numbers now in excess of 7500, perhaps a design index for Russia is too daunting a task. All the independent republics are included, with Booklets and Occupation issues as appropriate. For Russia itself the Civil War issues are included as usual together with Russian Occupations and Overseas Post Offices. A note at the end of Moldova details the present status of the Pridnestrian Moldavian Republic (PMR) issues.; However there is no mention that I could find, warning collectors of the myriad of illegal issues purporting to come from some of these republics. This is a hefty volume with 764pp in the smaller format, and good value, especially if it lasts another nine years. |
